my thoughts on H1N1

  • Aug 28, 2009

Just seek doctor's opinion if u're sick. Protocol changes... u don't have to insist for throat swab... coz antivirals are given if u're suspected/high risk. I think labs can't cope. But if they swab most of us...pretty sure dah berpuluh ribu rakyat dah positive for H1N1.

We're discussing H1N1 (positive, not suspected) in terms of xrays, ct scans during our weekly radiology-infectious disease dept conference. Somehow obese and diabetics predominate. Why obesity? Really dunno.

Some recover, back to golfing now :) Some are still in ICU. Some died. I guess it all depends. As I said, not all are tested, some are given longer MC and antivirals, and they recover- they might've had H1N1.

All in all, jus avoid getting sick, coz we wouldn't know who will recover and who will develop complications.

ultrasound

Being able to do ultrasounds, means being able to distinguish between normal anatomy and pathological images. For exams, I must be able to reproduce clear images. I think I should map out the systematic way for each examination, and reproduce line drawings:

  1. thyroid
  2. hepatobiliary
  3. abdomen- pancreas, spleen, vessels
  4. KUB
  5. pelvis
  6. lower limb doppler

anatomy

We're done with 6 weeks of lecture in UM, and have covered:

  • GU
  • GI/ Abdomen
  • Upper limb
Gonna be in UKM side for 6 weeks, covering:
  • Lower limb
  • RS
  • CVS
We're done with all radiography lectures: UL, LL, abdomen, chest- but they didn't cover skull- which has loads of projection.

Physics... that's another matter (or anti matter?), only to be discussed when I've opened my dusty Farr and Christiansen.

current posting: ultrasound

  • Aug 16, 2009
  • Post a comment

Done with:

  • IVU
  • Reporting B
  • Angio postings
Doing ultrasound posting which is very challenging. It is operator dependant, thus the operator ie sonographers/radiologist must be very good in doing it.

Reading Radiology Secrets (apart form textbooks: Stephanie Ryan, Abraham Weir) currently.

I'm comfortable doing ultrasounds of:
  • neck
  • hepatobiliary/abdomen
  • KUB
  • pelvic (although kinda tricky to locate the ovaries)
  • gravid uterus :)
3 days down (one day was wasted for APC last Monday), 4 more to go. Classes will be in HUKM for the next 6 weeks. Longer driving time on Tuesdays then.

post BF

2 1/2 months since our journey of BF ended *sadly. Time to watch what I eat since I wouldn't need those extra calories anymore. Thinking back, my appetite was diminishing towards the last few months- so unlike the earlier months.

Raya' s coming up. I love Ramadhan!! I've been fasting past few weeks, quite easy since I'm not worrying about my EBM supply :)

weekend

Another Saturday (weekend) call. Again it was angio oncall. I was there form 11am+ till almost 7pm. No lunch, thank God I had breakfast and brunch.

I fed Arianna early... so she was in a better mood. She's super grumpy if she's hungry, daddy's trait. And she wants mommy to feed *sigh*. Maybe soon she'd be able to eat on her own.
