Calorie Needs - Weight Maintenance, Weight Loss, Weight Gain
Your total daily calorie needs are the calories required to MAINTAIN your weight (as calculated above). In order to LOSE weight, you need to reduce your calorie intake. In order to GAIN weight you need to increase your calorie intake.
One KG of weight is equal to 7,700 calories. Therefore, in order to lose one KG of weight per week, you should either consume 7,700 fewercalories per week, or consume 3,500 fewer calories (500 fewer per day) while burning an extra 4,200 calories in extra exercise! To gain 1/2 KG of weight per week, increase your calorie intake by 3,600 calories.
If you eat more than the above calories per day without doing extra exercise to burn them off, you'll gain weight. If your goal is to lose weight by burning off excess body fat already stored in your body, aim to eat less calories over the week and maintain or increase your exercise activity. However, do not go below 900 calories per day as it'll send your body into "starvation mode" which will start to store food as fat! Also, if you suddenly cut down too much calories per day, you'll lose energy and feel tired easily, therefore get on a diet program that you can sustain without these side effects.
Eating right by counting calories is too time consuming for most people. In a perfect world we would all have time to prepare or locate such low calorie meals in restaurant or hawker centers, but not in today's fast pace fast food society. On top of that, cutting down on calories intake is only part of the solution to permanent and successful weight lost - you still need to ensure that those low calorie meals are also nutritionally balanced. Otherwise it'll be easy to loose weight by simply skipping meals!
- Replace 2 meals a day with shakes.
- Drink 3L of water/tea.
- No need to exercise.
- Lose kilos.
- Be on your weight loss course, but after losing weight, u need a few months for maintenance.
- Direct selling style, buy few months worth of supplies, enjoy more savings.
- Reduce your calories.
- If u can't reduce much, find a way to use the calories ie exercise.
- Never overdo your calories, coz it'll pile up and u never have the time to burn the extra calories off (dangers of raya open houses).
- Eat healthily, and balanced diet.

Just seek doctor's opinion if u're sick. Protocol changes... u don't have to insist for throat swab... coz antivirals are given if u're suspected/high risk. I think labs can't cope. But if they swab most of us...pretty sure dah berpuluh ribu rakyat dah positive for H1N1. We're discussing H1N1 (positive, not suspected) in terms of xrays, ct scans during our weekly radiology-infectious disease dept conference. Somehow obese and diabetics predominate. Why obesity? Really dunno. Some recover, back to golfing now :) Some are still in ICU. Some died. I guess it all depends. As I said, not all are tested, some are given longer MC and antivirals, and they recover- they might've had H1N1. All in all, jus avoid getting sick, coz we wouldn't know who will recover and who will develop complications.
Being able to do ultrasounds, means being able to distinguish between normal anatomy and pathological images. For exams, I must be able to reproduce clear images. I think I should map out the systematic way for each examination, and reproduce line drawings:

- abdomen- pancreas, spleen, vessels
- KUB
- pelvis
- lower limb doppler
We're done with 6 weeks of lecture in UM, and have covered:
- GU
- GI/ Abdomen
- Upper limb
- Lower limb

- Reporting B
- Angio postings
- neck
- hepatobiliary/abdomen
- KUB
- pelvic (although kinda tricky to locate the ovaries)
- gravid uterus :)
2 1/2 months since our journey of BF ended *sadly. Time to watch what I eat since I wouldn't need those extra calories anymore. Thinking back, my appetite was diminishing towards the last few months- so unlike the earlier months.
